Chocolate Mug Cake

Looking for a quick, easy, sugar free, low carb chocolate cake? Look no further!

I was craving something really sweet so I went on the hunt for a quick n’ easy cake recipe. I found this awesome chocolate mug cake recipe, however the original recipe was too high in calories for me. I decided to modify the recipe by reducing the fat content. 

The original recipe was almost 700 calories which is almost an entire day of food for me. So, by replacing the oil with almond milk, I took most of the calories away.

I also need to get more fibre in my diet, so I included a little psyllium husk powder. Psyllium husk powder helps me feel full while not contributing to the calorie count or taste of the cake.

I’m happy to say the end result was so delicious I just had to share it!

You probably won’t be able to eat the entire cake, because it’s huge! Cut it in half and enjoy the rest another time or share with a friend.

Healthy Chocolate Mug Cake

  • 3tbsp almond flour
  • 1/2 tsp psyllium husk powder
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 1.5 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 Tbsp natvia/swerve sweetener
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk


Mix the dry ingredients well in a very large mug.

Add the egg, almond milk and vanilla.

whisk the batter with a fork until its completely combined. (make sure you scrape out the bottom & edges of the mug while mixing).

Microwave on high for 2 minutes. If the cake looks too moist, microwave again for 1 minute.


I love this with home made chocolate sauce! The cake and sauce are big enough to be a meal. Perfect for Sunday morning brunch!
